"SUCCESS"  In March of this year, Phyllis Brannon of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was welcomed as a new member of VERSA.  A string of follow up emails revealed not only her love of the American Saddlebred horse but also her enthusiasm for promoting this breed. Phyllis has shown off and on catch riding for the past 20 years and during that time she primarily showed her own Arabian horses. It is safe to say that she is now an admitted convert as this will be her fourth year showing Saddlebreds along with her daughter, Caitlin.

Her 11 year old American Saddlebred gelding, Harlem’s Sweet Success, aka Danny, achieved phenomenal success in 2015 competition.

  • Horse World People’s Choice Champion
  • Saddle Horse Report Champion Hunter Pleasure Horse
  • National Horsemen Reserve Champion Hunter Pleasure Horse
  • Saddle & Bridle Reserve National Champion Hunter Pleasure Horse
  • ASHA World Champion Saddlebred Ambassador
  • ASHA Region 8 Champion Hunter Pleasure Horse
  • Pennsylvania State Champion 4H Challenge Rider Obstacle Trail Class
  • Pennsylvania State Champion 4H Saddle Seat Equitation with Caitlin Brannon

“He’s an awesome horse, a member of the family that does just about anything we ask of him. He goes from Saddlebred shows to teaching a challenged rider to ride for the very first time” states Phyllis. “We are very fortunate to have him.”

Phyllis goes on to proclaim some of their goals for 2016 which include side saddle in the ASB Hunter class, and a fun show with game classes, dollar bareback and barrels  ("just because Danny will have fun doing this")!  She is looking forward to the American Royal Horse Show and watching her horse compete in the UPHA Exceptional Challenge Cup Class Finals. “Danny will also be competing in the first ever ASB Hunter Class at the American Royal.  Danny does everything from trail riding, therapeutic programs, clinics, and 4H shows where they have no idea what a Saddlebred is. I was called the lady with the fancy horse! They all loved him.”

Phyllis has demonstrated her zeal and will contribute much to the VERSA mission of promoting the versatile American Saddlebred in all disciplines.  Wishing much continued success for Danny this season!   ~ Joan Booth, VERSA
